Ever stand on the first tee box, playing in a foursome with three other people you just meet, and proceed to duck hook that first shot dead into the trees, narrowly missing a house? One of your new playing partners says “That’s alright, we all get a breakfast ball.” You stand over the ball determined not to repeat that first shot. Focused with all the swing thoughts in your head: Swing easy, Swing out, get your chin up, keep your head down. You take the swing, hit 8 inches behind the ball and dribble it off the front of the tee box. Yep, I chunked my breakfast ball!
I love the game of golf, even on those chunky days. I want to share my passion for this game with others, and figured putting it into words is a way to do that. In this journey I hope to explore this game in many ways. I want to talk equipment – Drivers, woods, irons, putters, balls, and how they matter to the amateur golfer.
I want to talk about tour golf, PGA, LPGA, Champions, Europeon. The game is full of great players and great personalities. They shape the game and our expectations of the game as amateurs. They amaze us with their creativity, and humble us with precise execution. And sometimes, although rarely, even makes us feel better about our games when they chunk the ball and remind us they are human.
I consume so much golf content through avenues like print magazines, web sites, and the many content providers on YouTube. I will share my favorites, talk about how they help improve my game, or provide perspective I did not have or just entertain.
I will share course reviews of courses I play, and just my joy of the game. I will talk about what makes this game so great; the outdoors and nature, the challenge of the course, the striving to improve, and just the feeling when you pure an iron.
This will be my perspective, the perspective of a chunker. An amateur who still has much to learn about this game, technically and mentally. I am excited to share my thoughts, to get feedback, and hopefully build a community of people with the same objective: To share the passion for a game we love.
